Drexler (Adrian Leung) is a UK based multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer from Australia/Hong Kong. With a background in classical music coupled with an ear for contemporary sounds, Drexler crafts his music in a modern cinematic style that is raw, earnest and textured.
Alongside Drexler, Adrian writes music for film/TV and brands and has scored films that have played at festivals such as SXSW, Tribeca, London Film Festival and BFI Flare.
His next album 'Olympia-5' will be released in February 2026. Written as a response to his father relapsing with lymphoma in Sydney, Drexler decided to send over lots of improvised piano pieces to add some warmth to his father's hospital and to let him know he was there for him. The singles have already had support from BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 6, KEXP, Fbi Radio, The List and BBC Sounds.
Adrian is published by Manners McDade / Faber Music.
Contemporary classical and ambient music that combines an orchestral palette with modern production, electronics and field recordings.
Describe the moment you knew that you wanted to pursue music:
When I was 15, after writing my first song about heartbreak. I sung the song over and over and over until I got over it (the girl, not the song).
How does your heritage impact your art?
My heritage is central to who I am and shapes every part of my life, from how I move through the world to how I make art and raise my own family. I was born in Sydney to parents from Hong Kong, and growing up between cultures comes with a set of nuances that quietly inform how you see things. That way of seeing naturally finds its way into my music. My upcoming record is rooted in family, particularly my relationship with my father, and explores themes of care, distance from home, and memories of childhood.
What moment are you most proud of in your music journey so far?
I'm proud to have a career in music - writing music for film, TV as well as my Drexler project. I think it takes resilience and hard work to survive in any freelance/creative role and I'm very grateful to be able to make a living out of making music and art.
Your next music goal:
I've begun writing a set of string pieces which will be more suited to the concert space. I'm also looking forward to composing my next record which will have more vocal, electronic and experimental elements.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who and why?
Oooh this is tricky! I'm going to say Park Chan-wook. I recently saw his latest film 'No Other Choice' and would love to written music for that.
Your favourite song/lyrics:
"Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet" - Case Of You by Joni Mitchell.
I grew up listening to a lot of Joni and love how these lyrics combine with her floating, free and pure vocal delivery.
3 songs you're listening to right now:
Fred again... - We've lost dancing
String Quartet No 2 - Edmund Finnish and Manchester Collective (Not a technically a song but who needs lyrics?)
Never Felt Better - Sampha, Florence and Everything is Recorded
Your community shout out:
I'm going to have to say Sakamoto in terms of influence, inspiration and being someone who crossed over in genres, as well as being an artist and a film composer. He is missed...
Anything else you'd like to share:
I’m really excited to be releasing my next album, Olympia-5, on February 20. What began as a very personal process, sending improvised piano music to my father in Australia while he was in and out of hospital, has grown into a much larger project. Along the way, I received support from Creative Scotland, collaborated with some of my favourite filmmakers on accompanying films, worked closely with mix engineer Bobby Williams, and connected with many others who helped bring the release together.
