Amrita's songs are carefully crafted to tug at your heartstrings. Armed with a guitar and a voice that soothes the soul, her music reflects insights of a journey through the chaos of life. She recently performed at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas KLCC (Generasi DFP), and was an Official Showcase Artist at Folk Alliance International in Kansas City, USA. Her songs have been played on local and international radio stations, and her song ‘Together’ was featured in the Hollywood movie ‘Worth the Wait’, which premiered in May 2025. Her single 'Glitter and Gold' is currently being played on Malaysian radio.
Describe the moment you knew that you wanted to pursue music:
There's been a lot of moments of me questioning if this is what I should be doing. I'm confident with my music but I doubt myself a lot. I think a highlight was when I played The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, it was pin-drop silence, and heard the people at the table in front of me whisper "wow" as I sang my song. The support from the Malaysian and Nashville songwriting community has been a big part of why I continue to pursue music.
How does your heritage impact your art?
I've always thought that my music is not influenced at all by my heritage because my sound has more western influences. Lately I've been writing more about family and life, and lucky to represent Malaysia on small international stages, and I guess it's my perspective and approach toward my art is influenced by my heritage.
What moment are you most proud of in your music journey so far?
Hearing my song in a movie! doesn't really feel real
Your next music goal:
I would really love to write and sing a movie theme song, or play Americana Fest.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who and why?
Madi Diaz and Donovan Woods are my songwriting heroes. It would be a dream to collaborate with them someday.
Your favourite song/lyrics:
My favorites change from time to time, but right now its these songs:
Noah Kahan, Orange Juice: There's orange juice in the kitchen
Bought for the children
It's yours if you want it
We're just glad you could visit
it paints such a vivid picture, in the simplest way.
Arvan, 留下我:
我想說的話已經被人說了 我能說什麼
我想愛的人已經被人愛了 我要愛誰呢
為什麼自己總是那麼緩慢 發覺愛你的感覺
為什麼自己總是那麼礙眼 讓你轉頭就走
I heard this live for the first time sometime in 2018 and it was exactly how I felt at the moment. "everything I've wanted to say, has already been said, what do I say? Everyone I want to love is loved by someone else, who do I love?"
Both Sides Now, Joni Mitchell:
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Always going to be an all-time favorite lyric and song <3
3 songs you're listening to right now:
Kita - Heidi Moru
I've Seen It - Olivia Dean
When Our Friends Come Over - Madi Diaz, Donovan Woods
