An independent pop-punk artist from the Bay Area who started his passion project journey late in life. He's always listened to artists like Mayday Parade, The Maine, All Time Low, and Green Day while he was in high school from Fremont, CA. Going to his first Warped Tour Festival in 2007 and first Neon Trees show in 2010 played a pivotal role in his music tastes.

He was forced to practice piano as a kid in a Chinese household. That led to him being rebellious and learning guitar that he bought from his friend with the money he got from winning an art contest (It was $100 lol). After learning all his favorite songs from Guitar Hero and Rock Band, kid Donbald had a dream of creating his own music and becoming a rockstar.

As all youthful dreams and hobbies fade into the reality of the capitalist society we live in, Donbald lost his passion for guitar and went to college and continued down the corporate pipeline. Years went by, and Donbald continued to gain musical taste as he listened to a breadth of genres, like EDM, Country, R&B, Indie, Folk, and Chinese rock. He still yearned for the that connection that music can have with strangers with similar experiences.

It was not until in 2019 that Donbald went to a Polyphia concert and was inspired to pick up the guitar again, but from a new stage of life, where Donbald has lived his entire 20s grinding through life. He's had a decade worth of heartbreak, personal growth, and wisdom that younger Donbald just did not have. The artist then had to learn all the production, mixing, mastering, marketing, recording, singing, and songwriting because that's what independent artists do! He compiled all his life experiences, musical tastes, and soul into this passion project and now it's ready to be released.

Describe your sound:
It's a range from energetic guitar-driven pop-punk and alt rock, to emotional softer pop-punk ballades. They have a mix of EDM inspirations driven by heavy guitars. Singing is mostly clean tone, as I don't know how to emo scream.

Tell us about you early music memories and when you knew you wanted to pursue music:
My earliest memory of music is when my older sister burned me a mixtape containing Dashboard Confessionals, Gorillaz, and Green Day. She was my blue print to music. Then when I was in fourth grade, I was listening to Linkin Park and Sum41 with my childhood friends.

When I picked up my first guitar in 7th, I knew I wanted to follow in the footsteps of the greats that inspired my taste and shaped my personality.

How does your heritage impact your art?
Chinese music and poetry is so beautiful. The way they use metaphors and idioms is so profound and it is one of the main driving factors of my lyric writing process.

I love China.

What moment are you most proud of in your music journey so far?
My most proud moment is listening to my full album completely mixed and mastered. It took me 2 years to write, and half a year to finish polishing the album. But It's something I'm so proud of because this is decades worth of lived experiences compiled into an art project that I did all on my own. The album is so authentically myself that I know my younger self would've loved.

Your next music goal:
Play live shows and then drop another album! I love song writing so much I have so much content to share to the world.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who and why?
I would love to collaborate with Porter Robinson on a pop-punk track. His latest Smile album tells me he would make an incredible pop-punk writer.

A song that has shaped you:
"Jamie All Over" by Mayday Parade. This was the first cover I did with my highschool friends that implanted the dream of becoming a rockstar. Also it's just an ICONIC pop punk track.

3 songs you're listening to right now:
"Yeah, No For Sure" - Meathead
"Melancholy" - Driveways
"I Know What I'm Not" by Life Lessons
