A London-based independent musician and visual artist who treats sound and design as a single medium, building immersive worlds where both evolve side by side. Born in Macao and shaped by his time in the UK, he writes with introspection and edge, grounding his melodies and lyrics in emotional honesty.

Since 2021, he has crafted cohesive, narrative-driven releases spanning alternative pop, indie pop, and pop rock. A self-directed singer-songwriter and creative, Mak has released two EPs alongside English and Cantonese singles, earning a songwriting award recognised by Hong Kong industry figures. His work has gained media support across Macao and Taiwan, including Spotify editorial playlisting and features on leading Taiwanese indie platforms.

Known for vivid lyricism and strong hooks, his work explores personal growth, relationships, and the tension between chaos and self-reflection across music, visuals, and styling.

Influences include Taylor Swift’s emotional honesty, The 1975’s lyricism, and Rina Sawayama’s genre-blending, alongside the bold pop of Lorde, Sodagreen’s production, and the lush indie-pop textures of The Marías.

3 words to describe you:
Emotional, confrontational, reflective.

Describe your sound:
Catchy alt-pop with indie textures and raw, pop-rock lyricism.

Describe the moment you knew that you wanted to pursue music:
It was the moment my private song diary began to outgrow my bedroom. I realised these stories weren't just for me anymore; I wanted to share them with the world, dreaming that one day I’d hear an audience sing them back to me.

How does your heritage impact your art?
Growing up in Macau, Cantopop felt almost too close to my inner world. That pushed me to explore English and Mandarin as creative distance. I wrote my first song in Mandarin and now primarily create in English, switching languages to find the right balance between intimacy and clarity for each story.

What moment are you most proud of in your music journey so far?
Winning a songwriting award as both the composer and vocalist during an intensive songwriting camp. Collaborating with two total strangers at the time not only brought unexpected recognition, but it organically forged the creative circle I still collaborate with today.

Your next music goal:
To finally take my music from the studio to the stage. I’ve been releasing projects for five years, but I have yet to perform live publicly. Whether it’s an intimate grassroots gig here in London or a television debut, translating these recorded songs into a shared physical performance is my ultimate next step. (Promoters, my inbox is officially open!)

If you could collaborate with anyone, who and why?
Rina Sawayama, without a doubt. Having seen her live twice, I am completely captivated by her stage presence and her distinct perspective on songwriting using a genre-blending approach. As Asian artists writing in English, I feel like we’d make a powerful pop anthem together.

A song that has shaped you:
Violently, the Sorrowful Glamour" (痛快的哀艷) by the Taiwanese band Sodagreen (蘇打綠).

They were formed in 2001, coincidentally, the year I was born. This track shaped my artistry through its indie-rock groove and orchestral scale. The arrangement and lyrics perfectly capture a chaotic world while raising heavy existential questions. Watching them perform it live at the Golden Melody Awards on screen forever changed how I view music production.

3 songs you're listening to right now:
the cure – Olivia Rodrigo
d£aler – Lola Young
Nightingale Lane. – RAYE

Your community shout out:
Aside from Rina Sawayama (@rinasonline), I want to give a shout-out to my longtime producer and collaborator in Macau, JM.Icarus (@jm.icarus for Instagram, and @qubemusic.mo for his studio). We met at a songwriting camp, and he has been pivotal in shaping my sound and melody writing. He consistently encourages me to sing with confidence, and his versatility is what brings my sonic ideas to life.

Anything else you'd like to share:
My comeback single "token" dropped June 5th. It’s a psychedelic indie-pop track about the price of holding onto a relationship that’s already over. As my first release in two years, and my first song recorded in a London studio, it marks the start of a completely new chapter for me. More English and Cantonese releases are coming along the way so stay tuned!
