Based in Tokyo and active since 2024, nous is a rock band centered around the concept of "becoming a place of belonging and a part of culture for someone."
Their sound is built on a foundation of early 2000s Japanese rock and modern UK rock, woven together with the vibrant textures of shoegaze and dream pop. The band’s identity lies in the intersection of three key elements: melodies that pursue an innate "popness," cutting-edge arrangements, and lyrics that resonate with the subtle joys and sorrows of daily life.
By blending these influences, nous constructs a unique alternative vision—one that exists comfortably besides the boundaries of fleeting trends and rigid genres.

How does your heritage impact your art?
Our roots lie in the early 2000s Japanese rock scene, including bands like ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION. And we consider the UK rock scene, which they drew from, to be another of our own roots. We aim to build upon the music they created as an absolute foundation, evolving it to suit contemporary trends.
What moment are you most proud of in your music journey so far?
We look forward to creating many wonderful moments from now on.
Your next music goal:
Performances in the UK, which we consider one of our musical roots, and further performances in Southeast Asia
If you could collaborate with anyone, who and why?

Your community shout out:
Our music is an alternative rock and indie rock sound that has evolved by merging the history of Japan's traditional rock scene with that of the British music scene – a style that is truly unique. We believe it will be particularly stimulating for fans of bands like ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION and Number Girl!
Anything else you'd like to share:
Our new single, "Obscure flower part.2" (released March 11), is a powerful blend of nostalgic 2000s J-Rock melodies and shimmering, expansive shoegaze textures. If you're a fan of bands like DIIV, Ride, Kinoko Teikoku,or Asian Kung-Fu Generation this track will definitely resonate with you.
