ARI’s distinct, velvety vocals capture the pain of feeling like an outsider while attempting to please people that she loves

“Someone For You” is packed with delicate, catchy lyrics that illustrate the inner-conflict that comes with wanting to please your parents, yet feeling like nothing is ever good enough. The song opens with the line “disappear and change my name and face.” It explores the constant game of trying to morph yourself to fit your loved one’s expectations, to the point where you have completely deserted yourself and wonder if it would be easier to just disappear.

I always felt like a bit of an outsider growing up, and tried on so many different alternate versions of myself hoping that that would make people love me more. I’ve finally learned to accept myself, though sometimes it can be disheartening when people you love don’t understand parts of you.” - ARI LEE

The song is unique in its approach, however, as it not only expresses the questions of how to please those around you and ultimately rejecting it, but also the self-awareness that this urge to please people is one’s own doing. As ARI writes in the bridge, she expresses how she has been living “on pieces of approval” but perhaps it is really just her own fault, calling herself “a loser.”
