An emotionally versatile songwriter, Anika Joshi carefully interweaves her intricate writing with a range of jazzy, R&B and pop beats to create a flavourful vision of music. Influences from Daniel Caeser, to SZA, to Olivia Dean to Taylor Swift have inspired her into the artist she is today.
Her Debut Single, 'Magnetic Glow,' which has been recognised in the International Songwriting Competition Semi-Finals, fuses elements of pop, soul & R&B and has reached national and international radio stations with over 24,0000 streams on Spotify worldwide.
Her international playlist hitting pop song 'Running Out Of Time,' brings back a nostalgic feel, and has culminated over 30,000 streams on Spotify world wide, whilst her latest ballad 'Losing My Mind' has met various international press as well as national recognition by Triple J.

Describe your sound:
Describe the moment you knew that you wanted to pursue music:
I've always loved singing since I was around 7 years old, but I remember a specific moment when I was 12 years old, and I was having a really stressful day (who knows why, I was only 12), and I had a singing competition that day. As soon as I got on stage and the lights hit me and I sang into the microphone, it felt like that was the right place I needed to be at and I knew I wanted to keep signing as much as I could. A couple years later, I got into writing music and now I can't sleep any day unless I've written a song.
How does your heritage impact your art?
I used to learn Indian Classic Music and it's really beautiful how this form of music focuses on such intricate and detailed rhythm and melodic patterns. I think learning this really helped me when it comes to trills and licks that are so so so important in R&B and Soul Music.
What moment are you most proud of in your music journey so far?
When my debut self-written single Magnetic Glow was selected as a semi-finalist for the International Songwriting Competition in the R&B/Soul category - the joy of writing music it self is perfect enough but have it recognised in such a prestigious competition is such an unforgettable experience.
Your next music goal:
To sell out my Debut EP Show at Soda Factory! It's on the 6th November, and I'm playing a huge set live with my band and I'd love to celebrate my launch with everyone.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who and why?
There's a pop & R&B Artist called Dhruv who I really sonically and lyrically look up when I'm writing my music. I take a lot of inspiration from his work and his sound is so unique.
Your favourite song/lyrics:
"I'm in the business of losing your interest
And I turn a profit each time that we speak"
- Noah Kahan. It's probably the most beautiful metaphor I've ever heard in a song before.
3 songs you're listening to right now:
Dress - Dion
Free Now - Gracie Abrams
Get You - Daniel Caeser
Your community shout out:
Dhruv (@dhrvie) - his sound really inspires me to grow into the artist I am right now. I've seen a lot of interviews of him talking about how his Asian heritage has influences his perception of music and the industry, so I'm always inspired by these :)
