INDUSTRY SPOTLIGHT - completed July 2025
Tell us a bit about yourself
I’m a photographer (mainly in the music industry) but I do a little bit of everything. You won’t see everything I do on my instagram but essentially I take pictures. I take pictures of live shows, behind the scenes, press photo’s, and also the not so exciting stuff like conferences etc.
What does your average day look like?
If I’m not booked for a shoot then I usually spend some time in the gym followed by admin (invoices etc) and reaching out to people, expanding my network. If I’m booked to shoot then it can be anything from 12 hour days on set or a quick 3 hour shoot.
What is your most & least favourite part of the job?
My favourite part of the job is having the opportunity to meet new people and be surrounded by incredible creatives. My least favourite part is the editing process. It can be exciting to see my images come to life but it can also be very time consuming.
An important skill/trait for success in your role
I think being personable is important, You’re constantly meeting new people and working with people. You need to be someone that people want to hire and be around.
Tell us a bit about your industry journey so far
I started taking photographs of my friends and posting on instagram which then lead to me getting bookings for various shoots. I got booked to shoot behind the scenes for one of Burna Boy’s music video’s which then lead me to be asked to go on tour with him.
What drew you to photographing live music?
My love of music drew me to it. I have always loved music and I unfortunately am not talented in that area so I had to find a way of still being a part of it somehow. I mean who doesn’t want to go to their favourite shows for free and capture some incredible moments.
What has been your favourite show that you’ve covered to date?
I’d have to say my favourite show was probably Burna Boy’s first ever show that I shot. For personal reasons. I was a big fan and the experience was a pinch me moment. He is also one of the best performers.
How does your heritage affect your experience within the industry?
My mum has always been super supportive of my journey however I know some family members didn’t understand it at first. I think the expectation being Indian is that you're gonna have more of an academic role and I did the opposite. It just makes me want to work harder and prove to everyone that you can succeed.
Your advice for someone entering the industry
I would say my best advice would be to keep pushing. The industry can be very hard sometimes and it’s not always smooth sailing. You’re going to get 1 million no’s. Don’t be disheartened. Use it to drive yourself to work harder.
