Combining guitar-driven alternative rock with catchy melodies, Coming Up Roses are a north-west London quartet inspired by the sounds of post-punk and shoegaze.
Owing to lead vocalist-bassist Emily Sera & guitarist Darius Oon’s lineage, the band takes inspiration from the vibrant sounds of the burgeoning South East Asian indie scene, blending them with the local influences of guitarist Charlie Wilson and drummer Caleb Blake.
Confronting the uncomfortable to find comfort, Coming Up Roses presents multi-culturally informed songs that detail universal themes such as loss, struggles with mental health, and aspirations.
With a sound that is distinctly familiar yet elusive, the band has released 3 EPs so far: ‘Waters’ (2019), ‘Everything Is’ (2021), and ‘Coming Up Roses’ (2024). In 2025, they will release their long-awaited debut album ‘How Did We Fall So Far?’ through indie label INH Records.

3 words to describe you:
Introspective, dynamic and unfettered
Describe your sound:
Guitar-driven alt-rock with pop sensibilities. Kind of like if Paramore had more shoegaze and dreampop influences.
Describe the moment you knew that you wanted to pursue music:
When we got into the Baybeats Budding Bands program back in Singapore and we realised we had the potential to do more!
How does your heritage impact your art?
We've picked up influences from bands back in Singapore and throughout South East Asia and East Asia, and that has impacted the way that we write our songs. Those influences, coupled with ones from the Western part of the world has helped us to forge our own sound.
What moment are you most proud of in your music journey so far?
The proudest moment so far is when we did our own headline tour of Asia at the end of last year which covered Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Japan!
Your next music goal:
We will be releasing our debut album this summer!
If you could collaborate with anyone, who and why?
Partly cause of genre but also because the longevity of their careers is so inspirational. Also because Hayley Williams is the coolest, and she is such a trailblazer for women in alt rock music.
Lyrics you live by:
"To live in fear, is not to live at all"
