amri fuses her roots in Indian Carnatic music into her much-loved Soul and R&B to create a fresh new colourful sound. Her lyrics touch on her exposure in the world as a young woman of colour; translating this into both lyric and sound. Born and primarily brought up in London alongside Guernsey, she draws from these experiences in her writing. With so many inspirations she branches from, her soulful, sweet melodies will surely hold a piece of something you love.
Her upcoming debut EP ‘grooves in a SMILE’ opens the world of her music for you to feel, sing and move with her, now based in Bristol with her band. Her blend between the smooth, sultry edges of jazz and soul with brass and sitar creates a unique fusion that’s not one to miss.

3 words to describe you:
Describe your sound:
Blended fusions between soul, jazz and Carnatic music.
Describe the moment you knew that you wanted to pursue music:
Aaa that's a tricky one. I've always been surrounded by music. Especially Bollywood, Kollywood and growing up with what the radio played. I'd like to say when I was around 14? Around the time when I discovered my taste in music and knew writing and creating fulfilled me massively.
How does your heritage impact your art?
By growing up listening to Carnatic, Bollywood and Kollywood music, it engrained my culture musically into me. I wanted to create a fusion between this and the music I write; I've been able to attach these by involving sitar into my music alongside vocal melodies paying a homage of sorts.
What moment are you most proud of in your music journey so far?
Recording my upcoming debut EP for sure! I'm so proud of how it's come together and everyone I've worked with to bring it to light, I deeply love and am so fortunate to know everyone who's been involved.
Your next music goal:
I'd love to be playing festivals, or in general playing live more!
If you could collaborate with anyone, who and why?
This would fluctuate often, but recently definitely Jordan Rakei. I am awe of how he writes and composes music, watching him live last year was breathtaking and he's been on repeat since.
Lyrics you live by:
Plenty of Sammy Rae & The Friends song! maybe:
'She's coming up for the rising like the dark before dawn'
(Flesh & Bone)
3 songs you're listening to right now:
Flowers - Jordan Rakei
Mountains - Gotts Street Park
Dreaming In Slow Motion - Pale Jay
Your community shout out:
So many!! Here are a two artists who paved the way for new fusion music, balancing culture into their art and who have massively influenced me :) Gayathri Krishnan (@gayathriikrishnan) and Shreea Kaul (@shreybaebee) - amongst so many more.
Anything else you'd like to share:
I have my upcoming debut EP: 'grooves in a SMILE' out on April 25th, from which my two singles have been released! Following this I have an EP release show at The Jam Jar in Bristol where I'll be playing with my band, brass section and sitarist.
