GET TO KNOW - completed April 2021
3 words to describe you:
passion. love. lost.

3 words to describe your music:
emotional. romantic. vibes.

If it does, how does your heritage impact your art?
Apologies for this being so lengthy. but it’s all related haha. I was born into an Indonesian Chinese family in Los Angeles California and thats actually where I first got exposed to music. ever since I was little I’d be singing and dancing to all my guilty pleasures like backstreet boys and Britney Spears. Hashtag don’t judge me. At the same time the hip hop scene was really taking off in the states so my dad would be playing different genres in the car, from rap to Indonesian classics.

When I was 6 my family migrated to Singapore and I remember it being a huge culture shock, i didn’t know my identity but music was always the constant. When I got a little older I started playing in the church band and I actually started off playing the drums which was an instrument I fell in love with. Then I learned the guitar and how to sing while playing. Fast forward a few years and I became a worship leader which is something I still am even today.

While that was happening, I was playing in rock bands with my school friends and so both sides were working together to help me gain confidence and a love for performing. I think that this really influenced my future songs because I was listening to both gospel and emo screamo music for years which I guess created an emotional wreck of a boy.

Anyways, I went on to do my national service for 2 years in the Singapore music and drama company where my life path became clear. I was practicing and making music everyday and even got the chance to perform for the prime minister a couple times and 26,000 people for the National Day parade. I realised that this was what I wanted to do with my life. Music became my purpose thanks to the army. So even though my family wanted me to go study business, I auditioned for my dream school Berklee College of Music and when I got accepted, I knew I had to go. So with the support of my parents, back to America I went and I studied music production and songwriting with the most incredible professors and peers.

In my second year of school, YG entertainment heard my music and story through a good friend of mine and I got the experience of a lifetime as their first ever intern from Singapore and Indonesia. So I moved to Seoul South Korea for 3 months by myself, going to language school and working for YG at the same time. I learned about the industry and how the company works, got involved in a few different teams and even was an assistant for Lisa of Blackpink for one of their big events. Those few months were the toughest period of my life by far but the experience and self growth were really priceless. Fun fact I lost 4 kilograms even in the land of amazing food.

Heritage is ingrained into my whole being, and so my music follows.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who and why?
Lauv. he’s an inspiration for me. i love his writing and production. i want to show people that Asians can make great music and be inspirations for others as well.
